Vidya Balan has officially entered the world of Rajinikanth’s upcoming action sequel ‘Jailer 2’, with the makers unveiling her character on Sunday.
The actress has been introduced as Kantha, adding another prominent name to Nelson Dilipkumar’s much-awaited follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster. Sun Pictures released a character glimpse featuring Balan in a distinctive avatar.
In the video, Balan appears in a saree while smoking a cigarette before delivering a dialogue in Tamil. The brief introduction offers little information about Kantha’s role but presents her as a character with a strong screen presence.
The announcement is part of a series of character reveals ahead of the film’s theatrical release. SJ Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu have also been introduced as new additions to the cast, with details about several characters still being kept under wraps.
Balan’s casting also marks her return to Tamil cinema after her cameo in ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ in 2019.
‘Jailer 2’ brings Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian, with Nelson returning as writer and director and Anirudh Ravichander handling the music. The sequel is scheduled to release in theatres on October 15, 2026.
