Actress Sanam Shetty found herself at the centre of a heated exchange after attending a student demonstration in Chennai held in support of protests over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Speaking at the gathering, the actress said she had come to express solidarity with students and urged that the protest should not be turned into a platform for political gain. During her address, she also mentioned her admiration for actor-politician Vijay, prompting objections from a section of the crowd.
As slogans were raised against her, Sanam insisted that every citizen has the right to voice their opinion in a democracy. She maintained that she had participated in the event on her own and not at the request of any political organisation.
The situation became tense when a participant attempted to interrupt her speech, and there was a brief scuffle over the microphone before those present stepped in. Videos of the incident have since circulated widely on social media, sparking debate over the exchange.
