Vishnu-Vishal-Vikrant starrer ‘Lal Salaam’ which has Rajinikanth playing an important cameo is all set to release on 9 February.

‘Bigil’

This Vijay-starrer sports action film centres around women’s football. Directed by Atlee, the film revolves around an aspiring footballer who sacrifices his career after his father is murdered. How he bounces back to the ground to coach a set of women for a football tournament even as his enemies try to bring him down, forms the crux of the film. The movie, which opened to great reception, was compared to Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Chak de India’. Nonetheless, Vijay’s swag and massy dialogues, along with the emotional backstories of the young female footballers make this film a must watch!

‘Sarpatta Parambarai’

This critically acclaimed film, headlined by Arya and directed by Pa Ranjith, revolves around the boxing culture of the 1970s. The film follows Kaliban, who hails from Sarpatta Parambarai clan in North Madras, is tasked to revive his boxing career against the clan of Idiyappa Parambarai. The film won critical acclaim for Arya’s characterisation and realistic essaying of a North Madras resident in the 70s. The movie is a must watch for Pa Ranjith’s exceptional direction and if you are a fan of boxing!

‘Irudhi Suttru’

Directed by and co-written by Sudha Kongara, this superhit sports drama, starring R Madhavan and Ritika Singh, revolves around a failed boxer, who turns into a coach of a women’s boxing training academy. How he trains a young fish seller (played by Rithika Singh) into a boxer forms the crux of the film. The film makes it an impressive movie solely for the performances showcased by the lead cast, narrating the tale of an underdog’s road to victory.

‘Chennai 600028’

This Venkat Prabhu directorial sports comedy revolves around two local cricket league teams, who are arch enemies and compete against each other in local matches. This fun entertaining comedy film is a must watch for hilarious dialogues and stellar cast, which includes Jai, Shiva, Premji, Aravind Akash, Nithin Sathya, Ajay Raj, Vijay Vasanth, Prasanna, Inigo Prabakaran, Karthik and Arun. A mix of friendship, sports zest, and unending comedy, this movie is sure to keep you hooked till the end.

‘Gatta Kusthi’

Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi-starrer ‘Gatta Kusthi’  is an entertaining sports drama which revolves around Vishnu Vishal’s character, a male chauvinist, who wishes to marry a subservient woman. However, he unwittingly ends up marrying a wrestler, Keerthi (played by Aishwarya Lekshmi). The humorous events that happen after the truth is revealed form the crux of the film. The film makes up for commercial entertainment with lots of fun and humorous moments.
