Mani Ratnam shifts focus to love with Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi-starrer ‘Inji Vellam’
Mani Ratnam has finally revealed the title of his much-anticipated upcoming film. The project, titled ‘Inji Vellam’, brings Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi together as the lead pair. The makers unveiled the film’s first-look motion poster on September 7.
The glimpse offers the first look at Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi sharing the screen. The actors appear together in a rain-soaked romantic setting, suggesting that their characters could share a love story. However, the makers have not disclosed details about their roles or the plot.
The production team released the title and motion poster on social media while keeping most information about the film confidential. Kolkata is reportedly among the locations where the project has been filmed.
‘Inji Vellam’ also marks another collaboration between Mani Ratnam and composer AR Rahman. The filmmaker and musician have worked together on several notable projects, making their reunion one of the film’s major attractions.
The technical department features cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay and editor Sreekar Prasad. The film is produced by Subaskaran, Mani Ratnam and Siva Ananth under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
The film is expected to hit theatres in January 2027. The pairing of Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi adds further interest to the project.
Vijay Sethupathi has multiple projects in his upcoming lineup, including ‘Slum Dog’ with Puri Jagannadh, a film with Balaji Tharaneedharan, Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s ‘Pocket Novel’ and Raj & DK’s ‘Farzi 2’. He is also hosting Bigg Boss Tamil.
Sai Pallavi, meanwhile, is set to appear in ‘Ramayana’, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. She is also part of ‘OM: Chapter 1’, which features Dhanush, Mammootty and Sreeleela.
