The producers of ‘Leo’ took their plea to the Madras High Court, seeking permission for early morning screenings in Tamil Nadu. Following the hearing on Tuesday morning, the bench did not provide immediate relief to the producers.
The High Court bench headed by Justice Anita Sumanth has asked the Tamil Nadu government to hold talks with the producers, Seven Screen Studio, and reconsider its decision on the early morning screenings for Leo.
Senior Counsel Srinath Sridevan, who appeared on behalf of Seven Screen Studio, argued that the government has not taken into consideration various facts that would allow theatres to run five shows per day between 9 am and 1.30 am.
“Leo’s runtime is 2 hours and 43 minutes. When you factor in the time required for the audience to enter and exit the cinemas, as well as the intervals, each screening would take an average of 3 hours and 45 minutes. However, the total time allocated by the government for five screenings is 16 hours and 30 minutes. Our contention is that we need 18 hours and 45 minutes to accommodate five showings,” Srinath Sridevan told the media after the hearing.
Srinath Sridevan also added that the bench saw validity in the concerns raised by the producers and directed the government to review its decisions and reconsider its order.
The producers and their legal team have now met the representatives of the government to discuss the new terms and reach a resolution regarding the early morning shows for ‘Leo’.
