‘Kanguva’ directed by ‘Siruthai’ Siva and starring Suriya in the lead role is one of the most highly-anticipated releases in the industry this year.

The film which is slated to be released on 10 October is likely to be postponed. Going by the rumours surrounding the project, the makers have decided the occasion of Deepavali to be its new release date.

The decision is said to be made to avoid clash with Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyan’. This is not the first instance that Suriya’s film had to be postponed. Let us take a few of the actor’s films which had to be moved from the original release date.

‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’:

Directed by Pandiraj and produced by Sun Pictures, the movie features Suriya as a lawyer who takes on corrupt elements in society.

Known for its socially relevant themes and engaging narrative, the movie combines action with a strong emotional core

‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’ was first announced to hit the big screens in February 2022, but the makers pushed the release to March considering busy releases in the month.

The postponement helped the movie as ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’ opened well at the box office finding a solo release date.

Kaappaan‘:

Directed by K. V. Anand, Suriya played a top security officer who is tasked with protecting a high-profile political figure.

The story revolves around themes of patriotism, duty, and personal sacrifice, with Suriya delivering a compelling performance that highlights his versatility.

The film was first announced to release on 30 August 2019. But Prabhas’s ‘Saaho’ was announced to release on the same day, and it made the Suriya’s film postpone its release.

‘Kaappaan’ was then released on 20 September 2019, and the delay affected the film’s opening.

‘NGK’:

Directed by Selvaraghavan Suriya plays NGK, an idealistic and ambitious man who enters the political arena with the aim of bringing about social change.

The story explores themes of power, corruption, and the personal sacrifices involved in political life.

The expectations were high for the film ever since it began production. ‘NGK’ was first announced to release for 2018 Deepavali, and the film was supposed to clash with Vijay’s ‘Sarkar’ at the box office.

However the delay in the post-production made the makers avoid the clash, and the film was later released in 2019 May.

‘Singam 3’:

Directed by Hari, the third installment of the ‘Singam’ series was initially planned to be released in December 2016.

But the film failed to make it to theatres on the announced date, and the cop-drama was released in theatres on 9 February 2017 after multiple postponements.

The delayed release affected the film’s buzz, and the Suriya starrer could not create the impact like the first two parts.

‘Massu Engira Masilamani’:

Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film features Suriya as Maasilamani, a small-time conman with a heart of gold who gets involved in a series of comedic and dramatic situations.

The horror thriller was initially titled ‘Mass’. But the film’s title faced multiple changes, and the 2015 release was finally titled ‘Massu Engira Masilamani’.

The title controversy delayed the film’s release. Suriya’s film with Venkat Prabhu was postponed its release two weeks to release on May 29, 2015.
