The 2022 release ‘Gatta Kusthi’ was well received by audiences for its refreshing blend of comedy, family drama and social themes. Now, its sequel, ‘Gatta Kusthi 2’, arrives with the expectation of recreating the charm of the first film. Does it succeed?

This time, the story begins several years into the couple’s married life. Aishwarya Lekshmi continues to pursue her career as a professional wrestler, while Vishnu Vishal has embraced the role of a stay-at-home husband, looking after their home and young daughter.

Their peaceful life takes an unexpected turn. Believing that her husband is somehow responsible for what happened, she seeks separation. Whether the family overcomes the misunderstanding and reunites forms the heart of the story.

One of the film’s biggest strengths is that it aims to be more than just a comedy. Alongside its humour, it explores themes such as trust in marriage, family relationships, parenting and emotional understanding with sincerity.

Vishnu Vishal delivers a convincing performance as a househusband. His scenes with his on-screen daughter are among the film’s highlights, bringing warmth and emotional depth while also generating plenty of laughs.

Aishwarya Lekshmi gets a well-written role with enough scope to showcase both her emotional and action-oriented sides. She performs confidently in the wrestling sequences as well as the dramatic moments, making a strong case for more substantial roles in Tamil cinema.

The biggest surprise, however, is child actor Sara Siana, who plays the couple’s daughter. Her expressive performance and natural chemistry with Vishnu Vishal provide the emotional backbone of the film and leave a lasting impression.

Moksha makes a pleasant impact as a school teacher, while Karunas, Munishkanth, Kali Venkat and Karunakaran contribute several entertaining comic moments. Special appearances by Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu add extra flavour to the narrative.

On the music front, the song ‘Maharasi’ stands out and lingers after the film ends. The background score effectively supports the emotional and dramatic moments.

The first half moves at an enjoyable pace with family-oriented humour and light-hearted moments. While the second half adopts a more emotional tone, the comedy continues to appear at regular intervals, ensuring the film never feels too heavy.

Overall, ‘Gatta Kusthi 2’ may not offer major twists or groundbreaking storytelling, but it succeeds as a wholesome family entertainer. Director Chella Ayyavu balances humour and emotion while conveying gentle messages about trust, understanding and the importance of family relationships. If you’re looking for a film that the whole family can enjoy together, ‘Gatta Kusthi 2’ is a worthwhile pick.
