Memorandum to Mr.Kamal Hassan
MNM Candidate – Coimbatore South Constituency – 2021 Assembly Election
RANA – RACE COURSE AND NEIGHBOURHOOD ASSOCIATION – A residential association for the
people of Race Course and in neighbourhood has continued to maintain its position as a model
residential locale cum lung space for our city. Our congratulations to you for being nominated by
your party to contest the elections for state legislative assembly from the prestigious Coimbatore
South Constituency.
Members of Racecourse and Neighborhood Association (RANA) would like to thank you for giving
an opportunity to listen to our issues in Race Course area (within ward 71 and ward 73).
Our issues are as follows:-
1. Effective Disposal of Garbage and Garden Waste
Race Course residents find disposal of garbage a huge challenge. Moreover the corporation is
not clearing the garden waste generated. It must be noted that wards 71 and 73 generate the
highest garden waste in the city due to the green cover present and the residents are unable to
clear their garden waste. In summer especially the trees shed leaves and falling branches
becomes a hazard. We request you to facilitate an effective system/scheme for garbage
disposal. RANA will work with you to convert the garden waste generated in Race Course into
manure.
2. Traffic Management and Car Parking
Parking of vehicles is a very big issue and has to be addressed with a long term solution in mind.
Haphazard parking of vehicles is causing traffic problems. In several places cars are parked
everywhere that residents can’t come out of their house. We request you to kindly allocate
dedicated car parking zones and strictly implement no parking rules. Here we would like to
suggest the open areas behind Valarmathi Mess and behind the Temple Arch (108 Vinayakar
Temple) to be converted into permanent car parks. One needs to also understand that few
more apartments are under final stages and hence haven’t been occupied yet.
3. Illegal Constructions
Several shop owners have illegally constructed their own car parking spaces using cobble stones
or have cordoned off an area in front of their establishments and control car parking with the
aid of private security. Due to the lack of proper parking facilities the by-lanes such as GD Street
and Thiruganasambandam Road are filled with vehicles causing road shrinkage and
inconveniences to residents. There is also an illegal Sai Baba Temple constructed near Thomas
Park and several make shift eateries which spill on to the roads causing inconveniences.
4. Other issues
– In view of the several hundred women, children and senior citizens walking the circle each day
security is a requirement.
– Race Course has always been a centre for health conscious activities. Construction of Kiosks
and small eateries will be detrimental towards the cause and defeat the purpose. We request
you to stop construction of these Kiosks and increase green cover where ever possible. We aim
to work towards increasing the green cover which is very critical for the air quality and it’s very
important for the health of the people in Coimbatore. In your leadership we request to plant
more trees in Race Course and protect the existing trees which serve as urban lung space.
– தமி மற has been functioning for nearly two decades opposite to Taj Hotel. We
request you to allocate a space for them in the upcoming SMART CITY PROJECT.
– Stray Dog Menace due to the mushrooming of eateries and improper disposal of garbage is
posing a danger to those who walk. An effective solution needs to be in place.
– Underground laying of cables is an aspect which will be appreciated and will increase the road
width. This project has to be properly implemented so as to avoid digging up the roads every
now and then.
