The Hindi title for Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film ‘Coolie’, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been changed.
Initially, a few days ago, it was announced that the Hindi version would be titled ‘Majadoor’.
This decision, however, faced significant backlash from fans and netizens on social media.
Many felt that ‘Majadoor’ lacked the mass appeal and punch of the original ‘Coolie’ title. There was also speculation that the change was due to copyright issues, as the iconic 1983 Amitabh Bachchan film is also titled ‘Coolie’.
Responding to this feedback, the makers, Sun Pictures, have now officially announced that the Hindi version will be titled ‘Coolie: The Powerhouse’.
This change has been largely welcomed by the audience, as it retains the familiar ‘Coolie’ while adding a powerful subtitle.
‘Coolie’ is scheduled to release worldwide on August 14, 2025.
