Director Rajkumar Periasamy has shed light on the creative vision behind ‘OM’, his upcoming film with actor Dhanush, describing the National Award-winning star as one of the rare performers capable of striking a balance between artistic depth and mass appeal.
The filmmaker’s remarks came as the makers officially unveiled the title of the much-anticipated project and announced that the film will hit theatres on October 16, 2026, during the Deepavali festive season.
Speaking about his collaboration with Dhanush, Rajkumar said the actor’s versatility played a key role in shaping the film. According to the director, Dhanush possesses a unique understanding of both content-driven cinema and mainstream entertainment, allowing filmmakers to tell meaningful stories without compromising on commercial appeal.
Rajkumar noted that ‘OM’ has been conceived as a large-scale theatrical experience while remaining rooted in strong storytelling. He explained that the film aims to connect with a broad audience through emotion, character and spectacle rather than relying solely on conventional commercial elements.
The director also revealed that his creative discussions with Dhanush were instrumental in developing the film’s tone and narrative approach. He said the actor’s instinct for storytelling and ability to understand audience expectations helped enrich the project during its development phase.

The film marks Rajkumar Periasamy’s first collaboration with Dhanush following the success of ‘Amaran’.
