Actress Nazriya Nazim has found herself at the centre of an online debate after her appearance at a promotional event for her upcoming film ‘Scene’ in Dubai attracted criticism over her outfit. The actor attended the event in a green off-shoulder ensemble alongside co-stars Suriya and Naslen and director Jithu Madhavan.
Following the event, several social media users posted derogatory remarks about her appearance and clothing. Others came to her defence, arguing that her fashion choices were personal and criticising the tendency to police women’s outfits and engage in body shaming.
Amid the discussion, Nazriya shared a series of photographs on Tuesday in which she was seen wearing the same outfit. Her co-star Naslen and director Jithu Madhavan responded to the post with affectionate comments, showing their support as the online debate continued.
The incident comes amid wider scrutiny of Nazriya’s public appearances and personality. The actress has previously faced comments about her age and appearance, while some social media users have criticised her spontaneous reactions during a recent public event featuring Suriya. Supporters, however, have pushed back against such remarks, defending her natural expressions and questioning the criticism directed at her.
Meanwhile, ‘Scene’ marks Nazriya’s first acting collaboration with Suriya, Naslen and Jithu Madhavan. The project also signals her return to Tamil cinema after ‘Thirumanam Enum Nikkah’ (2014). Her Telugu film ‘Ante Sundaraniki’ (2022) was also released in Tamil-dubbed form under the title ‘Adade Sundara’.
Produced by Suriya and Jyotika under Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment, the film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 6. It is set to compete at the box office with ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’, directed by Sundar C and starring Nayanthara, which is scheduled for the same date.
