The South Indian Artistes’ Association, also known as Nadigar Sangam, has passed a resolution seeking imprisonment and fines for individuals who post defamatory content about actors and the association on social media and YouTube channels.
This decision was made during the 69th general body meeting in Chennai, where a resolution was adopted to demand a three-month jail term and a fine of Rs 3 lakh for those found guilty of spreading slander. The association also wants offending online platforms to be permanently suspended.
This move comes amid an ongoing legal challenge to the Nadigar Sangam’s leadership. Member Nambirajan has filed a case in the Madras High Court, arguing that the decision to extend the current administration’s term for another three years, led by Nassar, Vishal, and Karthi, violates the association’s rules.
The court has questioned the delay in holding elections, which are constitutionally required every three years. The association’s lawyer has cited the ongoing construction of a new building as the reason for the delay.
