Mohanlal to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced that veteran actor Mohanlal will be honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2023.
The award, India’s highest cinematic recognition, will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the actor, calling him an “epitome of excellence and versatility.” With a career spanning over four decades and more than 350 films, Mohanlal is celebrated for his profound contributions to Indian cinema.
He has delivered remarkable performances across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. The actor, who has already been honored with two National Film Awards for Best Actor, the Padma Shri, and the Padma Bhushan, expressed his gratitude, stating that the award “is not mine alone; it belongs to every person who has walked alongside me on this journey.”

Mohanlal Viswanathan, born in 1960, is a legendary figure in Indian cinema with a career spanning over four decades. He made his acting debut in the 1978 film ‘Thiranottam’, although it was never released.

His first on-screen appearance was in the 1980 film ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’, where he played a villain.
His contributions to cinema have earned him numerous accolades, including five National Film Awards, nine Kerala State Film Awards, and the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2019).
