Lokesh Kanagaraj appears to be extending his success into acting, with his debut film ‘DC’ crossing the Rs 100 crore mark globally within two weeks of its theatrical release.
Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the action thriller opened on August 7 and reportedly benefited from strong word of mouth. The film’s opening-day India collection was close to Rs 5 crore, before its earnings accelerated over the following days.
The movie crossed the Rs 50 crore mark within its first five days and subsequently reached the Rs 100 crore worldwide milestone.
Lokesh’s performance has been a major talking point, with audiences and industry personalities praising both his acting and Matheswaran’s direction. Several prominent names from the Tamil and Telugu film industries have also publicly appreciated the film.
The film centres on Devadas, played by Lokesh Kanagaraj, an outsider who becomes involved in protecting an innocent family after they encounter police brutality.
As the story develops, Devadas and his associates find themselves pursued by a powerful and ruthless police officer. Their struggle gradually evolves into a journey involving survival, justice, redemption and unexpected relationships.
The film has also attracted attention for its 15-track musical album composed by Anirudh, which has been praised for adding to the movie’s distinctive atmosphere.
Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy play the female leads, while Aadukalam Naren, Thalaivasal Vijay and Kasthuri Raja appear in important supporting roles.
