Making a debut in cinema often comes without the burden of an established image. For Jason Sanjay, however, stepping behind the camera for his directorial debut ‘Sigma’ comes with considerable expectations because of his family background.
The filmmaker is the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and grandson of actor-director S.A. Chandrasekhar. Speaking to Galatta Plus, Jason admitted that he remains conscious of how audiences perceive him.
According to Jason, his family’s legacy will inevitably follow him, while the changing political circumstances surrounding his family have added another dimension to the attention.
At the same time, he said he has been trying to remain focused on his own work and establish himself independently within the film industry.
Jason explained that he expects audiences to initially view ‘Sigma’ through the lens of his family background, but hopes the film itself will eventually become the basis on which he is judged.
He said that once the film is released, both appreciation and criticism would be part of the process, and he wants his work to determine how audiences perceive him going forward.
‘Sigma’ is a heist thriller starring Sundeep Kishan in the lead. The cast also features Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan, Yog Japee, Magalakshmi, Sheela Rajkumar, Kamalesh and Kiran Konda. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 2.
