Chief Minister Vijay’s swansong on the silver screen has made a thunderous start at the box office, with ‘Jana Nayagan’ drawing packed houses across Tamil Nadu on its opening day. The film, which marks the actor’s final release before dedicating himself to politics, witnessed exceptional audience turnout from the first show onward.
The H. Vinoth directorial benefited from strong advance bookings, with several theatres scheduling early morning screenings to accommodate demand. Trade estimates from Sacnilk indicate that the film collected around ₹24.67 crore net in India by 7 pm, placing it on course for a blockbuster opening.
Collections were driven overwhelmingly by the Tamil version, which recorded impressive occupancy levels throughout the day. Multiplexes and single screens in major cities reported sold-out shows, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding Vijay’s farewell film.
Outside Tamil-speaking markets, the dubbed versions generated a relatively modest response. The Hindi release registered limited collections with low occupancy, while the Telugu version performed slightly better but remained well behind the Tamil original.
Industry observers expect the film to comfortably surpass the ₹50-crore net mark on its opening day. If projections hold, Jana Nayagan will rank among the strongest openings in Tamil cinema, adding another milestone to Vijay’s box office record.
The worldwide gross is also expected to cross ₹100 crore, reinforcing the film’s strong commercial appeal despite its limited traction outside southern markets.
Featuring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain in key roles, Jana Nayagan is backed by music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film was originally planned for a January release before its theatrical debut was postponed due to certification-related delays.
