Director H. Vinoth opens up on ‘Jana Nayagan’ censorship, thanks fans for theatrical support

Director H. Vinoth has spoken candidly about the certification hurdles faced by ‘Jana Nayagan’, saying the team was left with little time to challenge the cuts recommended by the Central Board of Film Certification before the film’s release.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the film’s release, Vinoth said receiving an ‘A’ certificate despite making the suggested cuts was disappointing, particularly because it would prevent many younger Vijay fans from watching what is expected to be the actor’s final film in theatres.

He clarified that he held no personal grievance against the CBFC, adding that while the team believed they had been treated unfairly, they did not have sufficient time or evidence to pursue the matter further.

The filmmaker also expressed gratitude to audiences for continuing to support the film despite pirated copies circulating online. According to him, strong advance bookings and packed theatres reflected the audience’s faith in the theatrical experience.

On Vijay’s decision to remake ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’ for his final film, Vinoth said the actor wanted a story with a meaningful message. He noted that the film’s focus on women’s empowerment resonated with Vijay’s vision, making it a suitable choice for his farewell project.
