“LIK”

– Review

Set in the year 2040, the world is governed by an algorithm-driven app called Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), which calculates “love scores” and dictates when couples should stay together or break up.

Vibe Vaasey (Pradeep Ranganathan), a young man who was raised in a phone-free “Organic World,” ironically becomes the voice behind the app.

He falls for Dheema (Krithi Shetty), a social media influencer who trusts the app’s verdict implicitly. When the LIK app assigns them a low compatibility score, Dheema breaks up with him, forcing Vaasey to embark on a journey to prove that real human connection is more profound than any digital code.

Director Vignesh Shivan brings his signature quirky and colorful visual style to this futuristic premise.

The first half is filled with fresh ideas, high-energy humor, and creative world-building. He successfully establishes the “bureaucratic absurdity” of treating love like a financial product.

The pacing slows down significantly after the interval, and the “2040 setting” occasionally feels like a modern-day aesthetic with high-tech gadgets rather than a fully realized futuristic society.

Continuing his streak of relatable “boy-next-door” roles, Pradeep delivers a performance filled with energy and vulnerability. He effectively portrays the frustration of a man fighting an invisible digital enemy.

The undisputed highlight of the film, S J Suryah plays the eccentric CEO of the Love Insurance Kompany. His trademark high-octane energy and comedic timing—especially his dance sequence—elevate every scene he is in.

Krithi Shetty as Dheema is visually stunning and fits the role of a tech-dependent influencer perfectly. However, the script provides her with limited emotional depth compared to her earlier works, making her character feel slightly underwritten.

Yogi Babu provides moments of laughter, though some feel he is underutilized. Seeman, Gouri G. Kishan, and Shah Ra contribute effectively to the ensemble, while Anirudh Ravichander’s robotic voice cameo is a fun “Easter egg” for fans.

Anirudh is in top form. The background score is a major pillar of the film, adding a “concert-like” vibe to the theatrical experience.

Cinematographer Ravi Varman delivers world-class visuals. The color palette of 2040 is vibrant and stylish, making the film a visual treat from start to finish.
