“Dear Radhi”

– Review

The story follows Madhan (Saravana Vickram), a 23-year-old IT professional suffering from crippling social anxiety, particularly around women.

In a desperate attempt to overcome his fear, he pays Radhi (Hasli Amaan), a sex worker he meets at a salon, to spend 24 hours with him—not for sex, but simply to talk and understand women better.

As the duo explores the city, their relationship evolves from awkward transactional curiosity to genuine vulnerability.

However, the day isn’t just about soul-searching; it turns into a high-stakes survival game when Varadhan (Rajesh Balachandiran), an unhinged gangster claiming to be Radhi’s husband, begins hunting them down alongside a cop whose gun Radhi has stolen.

Director Praveen K. Mani gives his actors room to breathe, leading to naturalistic dialogue that feels far more authentic than the usual scripted “punch lines” of Tamil cinema.

The fusion of genres—romance, suspense, and dark comedy—keeps the audience on their toes.

Making his big-screen debut after fame in television (Pandian Stores), Vickram is a natural fit for the “socially awkward” Madhan. He brings a relatable, “boy-next-door” charm that keeps the character likable even when he’s being overly neurotic.

Hasli Amaan portrays the character’s quiet strength and weary grace with a confidence that serves as the perfect foil to Madhan’s anxiety.

Rajesh Balachandiran nearly steals the show as the antagonist, Varadhan. His portrayal of a “loose cannon” villain is terrifying yet strangely humorous, providing the film with its most energetic moments.

Jones Rupert’s background score effectively transitions between the soft, melodic tones of the budding romance and the tense, frantic beats of the chase sequences.

Lokesh Elangovan’s lens captures the intimacy of the central pair’s conversations while utilizing shadows and tight frames to heighten the suspense during the thriller segments.

Rest of the technical aspects of the movie help in taking the proceedings forward.
