Struggles of women

“Aaryamala”

Review

Set in the early 1980s, the film begins by showcasing the everyday life of Manisha Jith, a carefree teenage girl.

Her world takes a dramatic turn when her younger sister reaches puberty before her, triggering concerns from their mother about marriage prospects.

As relatives voice their worries about her health and future, Manisha consults a village quack who promises a cure.

Eager to mature into a desirable woman, she unexpectedly falls for a theater artist after a series of surprising events. What lies ahead for her forms the core plot of the movie.

Director James Yuvan handles this female-centric narrative with sensitivity, effectively portraying the protagonist’s struggles against patriarchal norms.

Manisha Jith delivers a compelling performance as a girl caught in societal expectations, truly embodying her character.

Supporting performances, particularly by RS Karthik, enhance her role, even if their parts are underdeveloped.

The film’s music, composed by Selvanambi, adds to its appeal, and the technical aspects are solid overall.

Rating: 3.5/5
