Jailer
– Review
Rajinikanth is a retired jailer who leads a simple life with his family. His son Vasanth Ravi is a sincere police officer. Vasanth gets into a tussle with Vinakayan, who smuggles antique pieces and idols of God.
One day Vasanth goes missing, which causes tension in the police department. Rajinikanth gets to know that his son is murdered, and hence he goes on a killing spree.
During this, Rajinikanth learns a surprising fact which changes his path. What is it? How did Rajinikanth deal with it? This forms the crux of the story.
Nelson Dilipkumar has done a commendable job with a wafer thin plot. The first half was nicely handled, and the second half is above average.
Nelson has played to the gallery and there are several moments for the fans to rejoice. It is good to see Rajinikanth in a solid role with a well defined character arc.
He underplays in the first half and gets a major transformation as the movie progresses.
Cameos by Mohan Lal, Shivaraj Kumar and Jackie Shroff have created the much needed impact. Sunil and Tamannah’s portions are okayish. Vinayakan is menacing as the villain.
Rest of the cast including Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa Menon and Vasanth Ravi are all adequate in their respective roles.
Anirudh’s BGM is one of the biggest strengths of the movie. Vijay Kartik Kannan’s camerawork is impressive. Rest of the technical aspects are passable.
