Actor Sunil, who rose to prominence through comedy roles in Telugu cinema before moving into lead and character-driven performances, is set to portray a lawyer in the upcoming courtroom drama ‘Due Date’.
The film features Lomesh Pudipeddi in the lead role, with Jayashree playing the female lead. Praneetha Patnaik, Vignani, Krishna Bhagavaan and Akshara Gowda are also part of the cast.
Directed by Anand K, the project is being jointly produced by Pawan Tarigopula and Eluru Sreenu under the Varish Studios banner.
Filming is currently progressing in Hyderabad, where the team is working on several important sequences. Comedian and actor Krishna Bhagavaan is also playing a significant part in the film, marking his return to the screen after an extended gap.
The makers have now confirmed Sunil’s role as lawyer Shekhar Chandra, describing the character as a key element of the narrative. They believe the role will offer the actor an opportunity to explore a distinctive performance within the courtroom setting.
According to the producers, ‘Due Date’ centres on a contemporary social issue and combines courtroom proceedings with commercial storytelling, unexpected developments and dramatic confrontations.
The title itself carries significance within the story, with the concept of a due date serving as a central narrative element. The filmmakers intend to balance the subject’s social relevance with suspense and engaging dramatic moments.
Sunil has steadily diversified his career in recent years, moving between comedy, negative roles and serious character parts. Alongside his work in Telugu cinema, he has also appeared in Tamil and Malayalam films.
His involvement in ‘Due Date’ adds another interesting dimension to the cast, while the courtroom setting offers scope for conflict-driven storytelling. Further details about the film’s plot and release date are expected to be announced by the makers in due course.
