Samantha Ruth Prabhu has given fans a glimpse into a traditional pregnancy ceremony and opened up about the spiritual significance behind the rituals she experienced.
The actress shared photographs from her Godh Bharai ceremony, where she was seen with husband Raj Nidimoru and other members of the family.
Along with the pictures, Samantha explained her long-standing connection with Indian traditions. She acknowledged that she has not always understood the meaning behind every ritual but said she has continued to believe that ancient practices carry a deeper significance.
The ceremony she underwent is known as Kalaa Aavarana, or Sri Kalpam, and is associated with the Sri Vidya tradition.
According to Samantha’s explanation, the ritual relates the 94 kalas of Devi to the seven chakras of the expectant mother. Sacred water, mantras and chanting form part of the ceremony, with the rituals intended to purify and energise these spiritual centres.
One aspect that particularly moved Samantha was the way the expectant mother is viewed during the ceremony. She said the woman is honoured as Devi and as the creator through whom a new life is taking shape.
The ritual also involves the Sri Chakra Yantra. Samantha explained that the sacred diagram contains nine aavaranas, representing different stages of a spiritual journey, with the central bindu symbolising the source of creation and Lalita Tripurasundari.
Another important part of the ceremony is the recitation of Devi Khadgamala, during which the names of deities and divine energies associated with the nine enclosures are chanted.
Samantha also highlighted the traditional belief that the sounds of the mantras and the rituals can leave a spiritual impression, or samskaara, on the unborn child even before birth.
Reflecting on her experience, the actress said she entered the ceremony with limited knowledge about the particular pregnancy ritual but came away feeling blessed and protected.
Samantha and Raj Nidimoru are expecting their first child. The actress is currently taking a break from work and has previously spoken about her long-held wish to become a mother.
In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, she described the experience as new and exciting and said motherhood was something she had been waiting for, promising to give the new chapter her complete commitment.
