Ram Gopal Varma questions attention given to fake AI video controversy

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has criticised the way celebrities and social media users respond to objectionable AI-generated content, arguing that widespread discussion can inadvertently give such material more visibility.

His comments came after a manipulated video involving the song ‘Chuttamalle’ from ‘Devara’ circulated online. Varma argued that drawing extensive public attention to the material could increase the number of people who encounter it, while the focus should instead remain on identifying and taking action against those responsible.

The filmmaker also suggested that repeatedly highlighting the identity of the person targeted by such manipulated content could cause further distress and exposure.

Earlier, actor Jr NTR had strongly condemned the circulation of the morphed video and warned that legal action would be pursued against those responsible for creating and distributing it.

Jr NTR described the incident as a serious misuse of artificial intelligence and appealed to people not to view, share or engage with such material.

He also called for stronger measures from both state and central authorities to prevent the misuse of AI technology, pointing out that anyone could potentially become a target of such manipulated content.

The controversy has once again raised concerns over the growing misuse of AI tools to create and circulate fake or objectionable material online.
