Rakul Preet Singh has rejected reports linking her to recent Income Tax Department searches and has urged media outlets to correct what she described as misleading reports.
In a social media statement, the actor said the searches had nothing to do with her and criticised what she called the practice of publishing sensational claims without verifying the facts.
Rakul said she had built her career through hard work and maintained that she had complied with her tax obligations. She also denied any involvement in alleged illegal overseas remittances or the ownership of undisclosed properties.
The actor further stated that she had neither received expensive properties as gifts nor held assets on behalf of anyone in India or abroad.
Rakul called upon publications that carried what she described as false or speculative reports to withdraw them and clarify the facts. She also acknowledged the commercial pressures faced by media organisations but said such pressures should not come at the expense of an individual’s reputation.
Some reports had claimed that Income Tax officials conducted searches at several locations in Mumbai as part of an investigation into suspected financial irregularities. The reports reportedly mentioned locations associated with Rakul, her father-in-law and producer Vashu Bhagnani, as well as Panorama Studios.
The alleged investigation was said to be examining suspected financial transactions and claims of money being transferred overseas in connection with film projects. Rakul, however, has categorically denied any connection with the matter.
