Actor Kajal Aggarwal, last seen in Salman Khan’s ‘Sikandar’, is set to portray the role of Mandodari in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated cinematic adaptation of the ‘Ramayana’.
She will star opposite actor Yash, who takes on the role of Ravana in the magnum opus.
While earlier reports hinted at actor Sakshi Tanwar being cast as Mandodari it is now said that Kajal has begun shooting for her bits already.
“The role of Mandodari in ‘Ramayana’ is incredibly crucial. Therefore, it was imperative for the makers to cast a well-established leading actress who could fully embody the complexities and significance of Ravana’s wife, opposite Yash,” sources said.
Mandodari, revered in the epic as the wise and graceful queen of Lanka, is known for her unwavering moral compass and inner strength. As the daughter of the demon king Mayasura and apsara Hema, Mandodari remains a voice of reason throughout Ravana’s descent, repeatedly urging him to return Sita and choose the path of righteousness.
Co-produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, ‘Ramayana’ is envisioned as a two-part cinematic saga, with the first instalment slated for release during Diwali 2026, followed by the second in Diwali 2027.
The film features a stellar ensemble cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
