Director Gunasekhar has opened up about the response to his latest film ‘Euphoria’, which hit theatres on February 6. Although the film did not achieve the expected results at the box office, the filmmaker says it has found a much larger audience after its digital release.
According to Gunasekhar, the film’s reception on OTT platforms has been highly encouraging. He revealed that viewers continue to reach out to him with positive feedback, which has reinforced his belief in the project despite its theatrical performance.
The director said the experience has inspired him to remain active and pursue filmmaking with greater consistency. While ‘Euphoria’ boosted his confidence, it also provided important lessons about the industry and the filmmaking process. As a result, he plans to adopt a different approach for his future projects by partnering with a producer who can handle business and promotional responsibilities, allowing him to focus entirely on the creative aspects of filmmaking.
Looking ahead, Gunasekhar shared that he has four stories ready for development. One of the projects already has a completed script and is expected to begin production soon. He added that official details about his upcoming ventures will be announced shortly.
Speaking about his creative philosophy, the filmmaker stressed that stories should not be written with a particular star in mind. He believes that tailoring a script to suit a specific actor from the outset can influence the narrative and divert it from its original intent. Instead, he advocates completing the story first and then identifying the actor who best fits the role.
Gunasekhar also noted that writers and directors should resist altering stories purely to accommodate commercial considerations during the narration stage. He pointed to some of his most celebrated films as examples of this approach, explaining that strong storytelling was the primary reason for their success, even when they featured leading stars such as Mahesh Babu and Chiranjeevi.
