Court posts CM Vijay-Sangeetha divorce case to August 7
The divorce proceedings involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, were heard by the Mahila Court in Chengalpattu on Monday. Following the hearing, the court deferred the case and fixed August 7 as the next date of hearing.
The case arises from a divorce petition filed by Sangeetha earlier this year, in which she sought the dissolution of their marriage and made several allegations concerning Vijay’s personal life. The matter was initially scheduled for consideration in April. As neither party appeared during the earlier hearing, the court instructed them to be present on June 15.
In her petition, Sangeetha alleged that Vijay had been involved in a relationship with another woman, which she claimed to have learned about in 2021. She further stated that although assurances were allegedly given regarding the situation, the relationship continued. The petition also alleged that the two had appeared together at various public functions and during trips.
The filing additionally stated that the circumstances outlined in the petition caused emotional distress and embarrassment to Sangeetha and the couple’s children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. She also claimed that certain benefits previously available to her were discontinued and that limitations were imposed on her financial independence and personal activities. The matter will be taken up again when it returns to court on August 7.
