Yami Gautam Dhar has shared her thoughts on the box-office timing of her latest film, ‘Nayyi Naveli’, which hit theatres on October 16, just a day after Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’.
The discussion began when a social media user praised ‘Nayyi Naveli’ but pointed out that its release alongside a major Rajinikanth film might not have been the best move. Responding to the observation, Yami acknowledged the difficulties filmmakers face in securing an ideal theatrical window.
The actor noted that finding a release date without competing films, or even with only one other film arriving at the same time, has become increasingly challenging. She also expressed gratitude to the film’s cast and crew for their efforts and thanked audiences for giving the project an opportunity.
Yami further clarified that she was delighted to have her film release around the same time as a Rajinikanth-starrer. Revealing her admiration for the superstar, she said she was a huge fan of him, like millions of others, and considered it an honour for her relatively modest film to share the theatrical spotlight with his movie. She also mentioned that she was eager to watch ‘Jailer 2’.
Directed by Balaji Mohan, ‘Nayyi Naveli’ marks his debut as a Hindi filmmaker. The film features Yami as Mohini, a woman whose new in-laws suspect her of being a Daayan.
The supporting cast includes Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vasisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee and Prateek Pachori.
Meanwhile, ‘Jailer 2’ directed by Nelson follows Rajinikanth’s Muthuvel Pandian as he confronts a larger idol-smuggling network connected to the criminal gang he brought down in the 2023 blockbuster ‘Jailer’.
