The Government of Tamil Nadu has officially issued a government order (GO) permitting cinema theatres across the state to host five shows daily.
The landmark directive, signed under the administration of the newly sworn-in Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, completely alters the traditional four-shows-a-day restriction that had been in place for decades.
According to the official release, single screens and multiplexes are now legally allowed to screen an additional fifth show, provided they strictly adhere to regular operating hours and labor welfare guidelines.
“The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, after considering the request made by the film industry, has amended the Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatres (Regulation) Rules. Accordingly, all cinema theatres in Tamil Nadu are allowed to screen five screenings daily for seven days from the date of release of newly released Tamil films and five screenings daily on local festivals and public holidays. Saturdays and Sundays,” reads the note, mentioning that producers don’t need to obtain permission from the government and licensing officer to do this.
This reduces the hassle of bookings opening late and uncertanity around timings of film releases.
