Rejecting reports which claimed that visa was denied to superstar Rajinikanth by the Sri Lankan government, the neighbouring country has said that the actor is welcome to the island nation.

In a tweet, Namal Rajapaksa, son of Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, said, “News about #Indian veteran actor #Rajnikanth’s visa to enter #Srilanka been denied is nothing but a rumor.”

He added: “Both my father and I, like the many other Sri Lankan’s islandwise are huge fans of his films. If he wishes to visit #lka there will be no hindrances.”

In a tweet in Tamil, he said, “நடிகர் #Rajinikanth இலங்கை வருவதில் எந்தத் தடையுமில்லை, அது பற்றிய வதந்திகளில் எந்த உண்மையுமில்லை. நானும் எனது தந்தையாரும் திரு. ரஜினிகாந்த் திரைப்படங்களின் பெரும் ரசிகர்கள். அவர் இலங்கை வர விரும்பினால் நிச்சயம் வரலாம், ஒரு தடையுமில்லை.”

Meanwhile, a Periyar outfit has announced that it would stage a protest in front of the residence of Rajinikanth at Poes Garden in Chennai, against his remarks on rationalist leader E V Ramasamy, at the silver jubilee event of Tamil magazine ‘Tuglaq’ recently.
