Actor and director SJ Suryah has shared his admiration for two actresses who have impressed audiences with their performances: Mamitha Baiju in the South and Alia Bhatt in Hindi cinema.
During an interview with IndiaGlitz, Suryah was asked to identify actresses who could be described as ‘Nadippu Arakki’. The Tamil expression refers to performers who possess exceptional acting skills and an impressive screen presence.
Responding to the question, Suryah picked Mamitha Baiju as a notable talent in recent times and named Alia Bhatt as his choice from the Hindi film industry.
His appreciation comes at a significant point in Mamitha’s career, as the actress continues to gain recognition through commercially successful films and performances that have attracted critical attention.
Mamitha began 2026 with a supporting appearance in director Vignesh Raja’s ‘Kara’, which featured Dhanush in the lead. Her limited screen time drew criticism from some viewers, but subsequent projects helped her regain momentum.
She went on to appear in ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ and ‘Vishwanathan and Sons’, earning attention for her performances. She also featured in Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, another major project associated with her recent career.
Mamitha’s reported box-office achievements have further strengthened her profile. She has been credited with joining Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt in a group of just three Indian actresses whose films achieved more than ₹250 crore each across three consecutive releases.
Meanwhile, Suryah’s remarks highlight the growing recognition of Mamitha as a performer to watch, while Alia continues to be acknowledged for her work across a variety of roles in Hindi cinema.
With opportunities across different genres and industries, both actresses remain prominent names in conversations about contemporary Indian film performances.
