Shankar praises Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Baththa’, singles out young Sai Prithiv Raj

Director Shankar Shanmugham has shared an early reaction to Vijay Sethupathi’s latest theatrical release ‘Baththa’, directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan.

The film marks another collaboration between Vijay Sethupathi and Tharaneetharan, who previously worked together on ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’ and ‘Seethakaathi’. Lijomol Jose and Sai Prithiv Raj are also part of the principal cast.

Produced by Atlee and Priya Atlee’s A for Apple Studios in association with Star Studio 18 and Cine1 Studios, the film has Ashwin Murugan, Murad Khetani, Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare among its producers.

Sharing his thoughts on X, Shankar praised the film for combining an engaging story with humour and emotional moments. He also highlighted the casting and performances, particularly Vijay Sethupathi’s work.

Shankar had special words for young actor Sai Prithiv Raj, saying the child artiste deserves major recognition for his performance. He also described Lijomol Jose’s acting as natural and graceful.

The director went on to praise Sai Abhyankkar’s background score, noting that its distinctive sound adds impact to several sequences. He also pointed to the film’s emotional moments and its portrayal of innocence.

Shankar congratulated producers Atlee and Priya Atlee for backing the project and reserved particular praise for Balaji Tharaneetharan’s direction. He described ‘Baththa’ as another memorable film from the filmmaker.

The technical team includes cinematographer Selva Kumar SK, editor Kalaivanan R and production designer T Muthuraj. Stunt choreography has been handled by Stun Siva, U Pruthvi and Kevin Kumar.

‘Baththa’ has opened in theatres alongside ‘Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai’. ‘Sigma’ and ‘Anbil Avan’ are among the other films scheduled to arrive in theatres.
