Rajinikanth’s stand gets wide support, creates political storm


Superstar Rajinikanth’s refusal to apologise for his comments on a rally conducted by DK leader E V Ramasamy (Periyar) in 1971, during which Hindu Gods were insulted, has received widespread support from people from various sections.

In social media, hashtags on Rajinikanth started trending and there were innumerous posts supporting him. Politicians like Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, DMK president M K Stalin, BJP national secretary H Raja and DMK supremo K Veeramani reacted to Rajini.

On Tuesday, Rajinikanth defended his remark on 1971 rally taken out by ‘Periyar’ and asserted that he would neither express regret nor tender
any apology. He also found support from senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy.

Speaking to the media outside his Poes Garden residence where
members of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) planned a protest
demonstration on Tuesday demanding an apology for his remark,
the actor said his remarks not imaginary, but factual.

”I made those remarks based on what I heard and that appeared
in magazines. So, sorry, I won’t ask sorry,” he sad. Rajini said that such incidents, which happened in the past should not be raked up again and again. “It is not an issue that should not be denied, but should be forgotten,” he added.
