Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is playing the lead role in Jayalalithaa biopic ‘Thalaivi’ directed by Vijay, has slammed actor Saif Ali Khan for his recent comments about India’s history and identity.

In an interview with film critic Anupama Chopra, Saif said “I don’t think there was a concept of India till the British gave it one.” This remarks of him received huge backlash from various quarters.

Asked about Saif’s comments by Zee News, Kangana said the existence of Mahabharatha proves that a united India existed before the British took over the country.

“This is not true. If there was no Bharath then what was Mahabharath? That 5,000-year-old text that was written, what was it? What did Ved Vyas write? Some people have just created these narratives that suit them. Sri Krishna was in Mahabharath. So there was a Bharath, that’s why it was mahaan. All the kings of India came together to fight that war. So it’s natural,” she said.

Stating that Europe, too, has small nations, but all of them have a collective identity, the ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ actress added that this was the reason why Lord Sri Krishna had gone to the above-mentioned places to ask who will be a part of the war.
