It was recently said that Priyamani had been roped in to play the role of V K Sasikala in ‘Thalaivi’, an upcoming biopic of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, directed by VIjay.
However, it has now emerged that Poorna wuld play Sasikala in the film, which would have Madhoo (Madhubala) playing V N Janaki, wife of late Chief Minister and matinee idol M G Ramachandran (MGR).
Says the director, “We had some date issues with Priya Mani. Our immediate choice was Poorna. I have seen her work and she is a phenomenal performer. We did a makeup test and she was perfect for the role.”
The film has Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut playing the lead role of Jayalalithaa. The second look of the movie was released today (February 24), to mark the birth anniversary of ‘Amma’ The cast and crew of the movie are currently shooting in Chennai.
Vijay says the film has been taking shape very well and the present schedule will go on till next month (March). “I am glad that I have got the best performers on board for the film,” he adds.
