The much-anticipated release of actor Karthi’s film, ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’, has been abruptly postponed following a stay order issued by the Madras High Court.
The film, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, was set for a worldwide release on December 12.

The stay was issued due to a long-standing financial dispute involving the film’s producer, KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green.

The producer has an outstanding debt of over Rs 21 crore (including accumulated interest) stemming from a loan borrowed from businessman Arjunlal Sundardas.

The High Court division bench rejected a proposal for a partial payment, stating that the producer had “misused the extensions and shown no serious intent to settle the dues.”

The court’s official order explicitly bars the release of ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ in theatres, on OTT platforms, or any other medium until the entire debt is repaid.
