AR Rahman, who celebrated his birthday this week, is one of the most famous composers in the Indian film industry. He started his career with the 1992 release Roja (Tamil). In these 30 years, he has composed many wonderful songs for several movies.

Was born as a Hindu

AR Rahman was born as a Hindu; his original name was Dileep Kumar. But, he embraced Islam after his ill younger sister was cured by a Sufi saint.

Didn’t want to become a music composer

The music maestro didn’t want to become a music composer. He wanted to become a computer engineer. Thank god he opted for music.

A street on his name

AR Rahman is very famous internationally. In 2013, a street in Markham, Ontario, Canada, was named in Rahman’s honour.

Shares his birthday with a special person

AR Rahman has three kids, Ameen Khatija and Rahima. He shares his birthday with son Ameen.

Jai Ho was composed for some other film

AR Rahman’s famous song Jai Ho which we heard in Slumdog Millionaire was actually composed for Salman Khan starrer Yuvvraaj. He won an Oscar for the movie.
