Kollywood lights lamps against Covid-19

Responding to a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who requested Indians to switch off all lights at 9 pm for nine minutes on Sunday and light diyas/ candles to highlight the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, many popular personalities of Tamil cinema fulfilled the request.

Superstar Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Prabhu, Nayanthara, Jiiva, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Tamannah, Raashi Khanna, Suri, Udhaya, Amritha Iyer, Gautham Karthik, R V Udhayakumar and others switched off lights in their houses and light diyas or candles.

Politicians of Tamil Nadu too join the bandwagon. Governor Banwarilal Purohit lit a candle at Raj Bhavan. Earlier, a release from Raj Bhavan said, “As per the appeal of the Prime Minister, Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu, lit a candle after switching of lights of Raj Bhavan, Chennai for 9 minutes from 9 pm today. Secretary to Governor and other officers also joined the Governor in this fight against Covid-19.’

At his Greenways Road residence, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, while maintaining distance with other members of his family and officials, lit earthen lamps and candles. Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar, Revenue Minister R B Udhayakumar and others too followed the suit.

Mammootty, one of the top stars of Mollywood and hugely popular in Kollywood, hady urged people to stay ‘united’ amid the coronavirus outbreak and light a candle/ lamp at 9 pm on Sunday to prove that ‘we are one’.
