Suriya and Trisha’s legal action-drama ‘Karuppu’ has taken the global box office by storm, officially amassing a staggering Rs147 crore gross worldwide within its opening four days.
Celebrating this monumental success, director RJ Balaji and the core production unit paid a formal courtesy visit to the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay, at the Chennai Secretariat to express their profound gratitude for granting extended five-shows-per-day theatrical permissions, which heavily catalyzed the film’s record-breaking momentum.
However, amidst the box office celebration, production house Dream Warrior Pictures found themselves addressing a major creative controversy.
The team issued a formal public statement of apology to music legend Ilaiyaraaja regarding a satirical meta-dialogue in the film.
In the scene, RJ Balaji’s character abruptly cuts off the iconic 1985 Dalit assertion anthem “Poradada Oru Vaalenthuda” from the film ‘Alai Osai’, jokingly noting that Ilaiyaraaja would sue them for copyright infringement if he found out.
Acknowledging that the reference had genuinely upset the veteran composer, the producers clarified that the dialogue was strictly intended as broader situational satire rather than a personal remark.
As a mark of deep respect, Dream Warrior Pictures confirmed they have officially decided to remove or modify the controversial audio snippet from all future theatrical screenings, OTT versions, and subsequent digital exploitations of the film.
