The trailer of ‘Thalaivi’, a bio-pic on former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was released on its lead actor Kangana Ranaut’s birthday on Tuesday.
The trailer shows Jayalalithaa being undermined by men, who doubt if she has what it takes to be a politician, especially because she was originally an actor.
We are then shown glimpses of Jayalalithaa campaigning, and winning support across the state. Powerful moments include Jayalalithaa taking on Indira Gandhi face-to-face in her maiden speech in the Parliament in 1984.
The trilingual film will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film is directed by AL Vijay, and it also features Arvind Swami, Prakash Raj, Madhoo and Bhagyashree in key roles. The movie will be released on 23 April.
