Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest big-screen outing, ‘Jailer 2’, is reportedly delivering an impressive performance at the box office, with its worldwide earnings reaching an estimated ₹477 crore during its first five days in theatres.
Figures reported by box-office tracker Sacnilk indicate that the Nelson-directed sequel earned approximately ₹42 crore from Indian theatres on Monday. The film’s domestic gross is estimated at around ₹288 crore, underlining its strong early performance.
The sequel also made a notable impact on its opening day. Its worldwide debut collection has been reported at ₹125.25 crore, placing it among Rajinikanth’s biggest opening-day performers. The figure is reportedly second only to ‘Coolie’, which opened with an estimated ₹150 crore worldwide.
The film’s reported earnings have raised expectations that it could challenge the existing benchmark for Tamil cinema’s highest-grossing films. Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’, with a reported worldwide collection of approximately ₹670 crore, is cited as the target that ‘Jailer 2’ could attempt to surpass.
Despite its commercial momentum, the sequel has received mixed feedback from audiences. Several viewers have praised the first half for its entertainment value and character introductions, while others have pointed to pacing issues and narrative shortcomings in the later portions.
The film’s large ensemble has also attracted attention. Namo Narayana’s portrayal of Moorthy has emerged as one of the performances viewers have discussed, while the addition of several prominent actors has expanded the sequel’s star power.
The cast features Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, S.J. Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Jackie Shroff, Apeksha Porwal, Mithun Chakraborty and Hakkim Shah. Familiar faces returning from the earlier film include Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, Shivarajkumar, Jaffer Sadiq and Mohanlal.
The combination of Rajinikanth’s star appeal, Nelson’s direction and a sprawling cast has helped the film attract considerable attention during its opening run.
While the early numbers point to a strong commercial showing, ‘Jailer 2’ will need to maintain its momentum to approach the reported ₹670 crore milestone. The collection figures are industry estimates and may vary across tracking sources.
