How to protect theatres from Covid impact? Will govt consider novel idea? – F’day Spl. Article by Naveen

Everyone is aware that the film industry, especially cinema theatres, are worst hit for more than a year by Covid-19 first and second waves.

Since the pandemic spread is coming down in Tamil Nadu, it is expected that theatres would be reopened soon. However, it is still a question whether the government would allow more than 50 per cent occupancy. Moreover, there is a fear that the third wave of coronavirus would hit soon.

Hence, there is a danger of theatre industry getting crippled. Here is a suggestion to prevent this and to protect cinema and people from the clutches of Covid-19.

The government can make an announcement that up to 100 per cent occupancy would be allowed in theatres only if those who have received Covid-19 vaccine are permitted inside. Those who have received first dose can be made to sit in alternate seats and those who have received both doses can be seated next to each other.

Patrons should come to theatres with their vaccination certificates. Volunteers or fans can be posted at the entrance to help theatre staff to verify the certificate and allow people inside. A couple of police personnel can also be  deployed.

By doing this, theatre business would slowly come back to normalcy, while Tamil Nadu people, who love cinema, would get encouraged to get vaccine.

Since only a few months are left for Deepavali and many big films are lined up for release, this initiative would not affect theatres and fans even if there is third wave.
