Veteran actress ‘Sowcar’ Janaki has been honoured with the Padma Shri award for her distinguished service in the field of arts.
The Home Ministry on Tuesday announced the list of recipients of the Padma awards.
Janaki made her debut in the Telugu movie ‘Shavukaru’ in 1950. Her first direct Tamil film was ‘Valayapathi’ which was released in 1952.
She has acted in over 450 films in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Apart from this she has also performed on stage in over 3,000 shows.
Janaki was last seen in Santhanam’s ‘Biskoth’ which released in 2020.
As many as 28 people have been honoured this year with the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards.
