The upcoming historical drama ‘Draupathi 2’ found itself amidst controversy when playback singer Chinmayi Sripada publicly apologised for lending her voice to the song ‘Emkoney.’
Chinmayi stated that she would not have collaborated had she been aware of the director Mohan G’s ideology.
In response, Director Mohan G hit back, urging netizens not to target the film’s crew and cast, emphasizing that the views and thematic content expressed in the movie are solely his own creation and ideology.
The film, which is set in the 14th century, is being prepared for a pan-India release.
Chinmayi explained the circumstances of the recording, noting that she collaborated with the composer Ghibran—whom she has known for years—and was unaware of the film’s directorial connection or its controversial political leaning until after the recording session.
The historical film is the sequel to the highly debated 2020 film ‘Draupathi’.
Director Mohan G, known for tackling complex and often divisive social issues in his previous films like ‘Rudra Thandavam’ and ‘Bakasuran’, has stood by his work, stating he is prepared to face criticism directly while shielding his collaborators from online backlash.
