Doctors play an important role in everyone’s life and it is considered to be a sacred profession. Kollywood has a handful of doctors who have turned their attention towards acting careers. Let us take a look at the doctor turned actors in Tamil cinema.
Sai Pallavi:
Sai Pallavi has completed her medical course in a foreign country. But the talented actress hasn’t practiced as a doctor as she got busy with her films. However the actress aims at practicing medicine someday so that she can attend patients.
Aditi Shankar:
Aditi Shankar, daughter of director Shankar, studied medicine and also graduated from college a couple of years back. However, she made her debut in Kollywood with Karthi’s ‘Viruman’. Following this, she was also part of Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Maaveeran’ and has also committed to a couple of projects.
Vidya Pradeep:
Vidya Pradeep who is popular for her roles in Saivam (2014), Pasanga 2 (2015), and Thadam (2019) is a scientist. She is currently working as a scientist in the United States. After completing her Master of Science degree in Biotechnology, Vidya Pradeep completed her PhD in Stem Cell Biology at an eye hospital in Chennai. She works on ocular stem cells, and her works are published in “International Journal of Cornea” and “International Journal of Cell Therapy”.
Dheeraj:
Being a reputed surgeon, Dheeraj is quite excited to have made his acting debut with ‘Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari’. He is now part of ‘Double Tukker’ which is a a live-action animated movie. The film directed by debutant Meera Mahadhi has Smruthi Venkat and Yashika Anand as the female leads. Vidyasagar is composing music for Double Tukker, the film has cinematography by Gautham and editing by Vetri.
Ajmal:
Ajmal Ameer is famous for his roles in the movies ‘Anjathe’, ‘Ko’, ‘Devi 2’, and others. He completed his medical studies at National Pirogov Memorial Medical University in Ukraine. After completing his medical course, Ajmal had plans of opening a medical center. But he entered into cinema and the positive reviews that he received, made him continue as an actor.
Powerstar Srinivasan:
Powerstar Srinivasan is a trained acupuncture practitioner. He completed his studies in China, and he owns a hospital in Chennai. Powerstar Srinivasan then dreamed of entering cinema and acted in a few movies in his own production. His confident speeches made him famous among the audience, and he played notable roles in the films ‘Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya’, ‘I’, and others.
Bharath Reddy:
Bharath Reddy made his cinema entry with Kamal Haasan’s ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’, and he played a police officer in the film. Bharath Reddy has completed a medical degree from Yerevan State Medical University in Armenia. He is still practicing as a Cardiologist in a famous hospital in Hyderabad.
