Director AR Murugadoss has addressed long-standing speculation that his Vijay-starrers ‘Kaththi’ and ‘Sarkar’ were created to build the actor’s political image before his entry into politics.
Speaking during a YouTube interview with journalist Sudhir Sreenivasan, Murugadoss dismissed the claims, stating that neither film was conceived with any political objective. According to him, both stories were written to address contemporary social issues rather than to support any future political ambitions.
The filmmaker revealed that the concept for ‘Kaththi’ had been with him for several years and that, following the success of ‘Ramana’, he wanted to create another socially relevant film featuring impactful dialogues. He explained that the script was developed based on the issues prevalent at the time and was intentionally designed to be different from ‘Thuppakki’.
Murugadoss maintained that the themes explored in both films were driven purely by storytelling and social relevance, not by political considerations.
