Singer and actor Andrea Jeremiah is embracing a new challenge in her musical journey as she joins Tamil Idol as a judge. The upcoming singing reality show marks the Tamil-language entry of the internationally recognised Indian Idol franchise, bringing together established musicians to discover and encourage emerging vocal talent.
Andrea will share the judging panel with singers Benny Dayal and Karthik, while Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman will serve as the programme’s super mentor.
Speaking to IANS, Andrea said she was entering the judging arena with curiosity and an open mind. Although audiences know her for her work in films, she emphasised that music has always remained at the centre of her professional and personal life.
For Andrea, the opportunity to judge aspiring singers is about much more than evaluating performances. She believes that recognising an emerging artist’s potential and helping shape their future can be an especially meaningful experience.
She explained that music has the ability to accompany people through different phases of life, offering comfort and expression during both happy and difficult times. This deep connection with music is one of the reasons she was drawn to the show.
The singer also said she was keen to understand what the programme would bring to the table, describing her first experience as a reality-show judge as an opportunity to learn and explore a new side of the industry.
Andrea has successfully balanced acting, singing and film production throughout her career. However, she made it clear that music continues to occupy a special place in her heart.
While acting has offered her opportunities to explore different characters and producing has given her a new creative perspective, she considers music her most natural form of expression.
Her comments reflect the importance of music in her journey, from performing songs to working with fellow artists and connecting with listeners.
