Many of us know that Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman worked under maestro Ilayaraja during his initial years in the music industry. Rahman has now recalled the interesting story on how he joined the ‘Isaignani’.
“I saw a news about a computer called Yamaha C1 or something. It was the first time something was coming called the music computer called CX5. I buy it first and the next thing is I get a call from Ilaiyaraaja asking if know to feed that computer and he asked me If I can come and work with him in the night,” Rahman.
In a recent interview, the ‘Isai Puyal’ added: “So will finish recording with Ramesh Naidu and then go and work with Ilayaraja sir.” Interestingly, Rahman was earning about only 100 to 200 rupees a day back then.
Rahman further said though he got the computer only for his personal satisfaction, Ilayaraja calling him to work with him was destiny. “If you are edging towards something more higher things will come to you and you should be confident,” Rahman added.
