Prasanna triggered a huge debate on social media, by alleging that Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) was collecting exorbitant charges from consumers.
“How many of you feel #TNEB is on a looting spree amidst this COVID lockdown?” This tweet of the actor went viral, with many users coming to his support and a few criticising him. The TNEB too reacted to it, and said actual charges are only being collected.
It emerged that due to the Coronavirus pandemic, its employees could not take meter readings. And, hence the customers were asked to pay the amount that was charged in the previous bill.
Following this, Prasanna has issued a issued that his intention was not to degrade or portray TNEB in bad light. He said that all he wanted is that by grabbing the attention, there is a chance for the Government to announce a few days relaxation to pay the bill. He also regretted if his tweet hurt the employees and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. He added that he has paid his bill.
“Now that the computation doubts are clear, they cud consider the extraordinary situation and low liquidity, give an opportunity for the people to pay the bill in installments or extended time limits to pay the same,” he said.
